Are you looking for a pampering at-home skincare routine? Skincare is something we have to pay attention to if we want to take care of our appearance. I have been experimenting with my skincare routine these past few years. Finding an effective at-home skincare routine is not one-size-fits-all. But I hope that I can share my methods that might be helpful as you find the best way for you.
At-home skincare routines were a topic in an episode of the Fandesals Podcast. If you understand Tagalog, the episode can be a source of services and routines that you can try! Check out the episode embedded at the end of the post!
As mentioned earlier, I tend to experiment with my skincare routine. My routines depend on my mood. I can be very diligent with my skincare or very lazy. My routines can range from high maintenance to the very basic, depending on my mood.

Some of my skincare essentials |
High Maintenance Skincare
Skincare that I categorize as high maintenance is not done at home. These are things done when I visit skin clinics from time to time. Because they are expensive and time-consuming, I do not get to do this often.
Among my favorite services is the diamond facial. It is also called the diamond peel aka microdermabrasion. This uses a diamond-tipped instrument to remove dead skin and dirt on the outer skin layer.
According to most clinics, this helps with dark spots and wrinkles. It also helps with acne, helping the skin to look smoother, cleaner, and brighter. This diamond peel includes the regular facial process. This is apart from face steaming, exfoliation, and extraction work on clogged pores. My face feels so light and clean after. It also looks brighter.
I usually follow this with a cryotherapy facial treatment. I’ve heard that some clinics blast liquid nitrogen on your face, which seems a bit scary. The clinic I go to uses an instrument massaged onto my face that gives a similar cooling effect. I heard that this helps tighten pores. It also stimulates collagen production for anti-aging. I have also found that it has a slimming effect on the face. They usually end this with a soothing red LED light treatment.
These treatments are high maintenance so I rarely do them. I cannot always take the time to visit skin care clinics. The service can also be a bit pricey, and I can't afford to do it as often. I only do this once a month at the most, or when I need it.
Medium Maintenance Skincare
This is something I do apart from the low-maintenance routines that I do at home. During periods when I do not get to visit skin care clinics, this is part of my at-home routine. I don’t do this daily, but only when I’m feeling the need for some at-home pampering for my skin. It's part of my skincare practice to use a few skincare devices along with my regular routine.
I do a facial steaming, then I wash my face with a facial wash. I follow this up with my usual low-maintenance skincare routine. I use a facial wand that I bought from Skinologist. This involves using the wand while I moisturize. According to the manual, this helps absorb the product better. I also use the EMS feature for slimming and contouring my face. Not everyone would like to use EMS, but if you can take the bit of sting, the tightening is a good effect of the treatment.
After the EMS, I use the red LED light followed by the cooling ice feature to help shrink my pores. Each feature lasts around three minutes, which is set by the device. I like that the device shuts off after three minutes. This means that there would be no tendency to overdo treatment on your skin. You can also adjust the intensity settings. This all depends on what you are most comfortable with.
After all this, I use the K-Derma eye lift wand to help reduce my eye bags and dark circles. It has both a red LED light and a blue cooling light that I use for five minutes each. I use this with an eye cream. I love the red-light LED treatment from this device. It feels so soothing around my eyes, especially after a long day of working on a computer and looking at devices.
I must note that I do the red LED treatment and EMS every other day when I am not too lazy about my routine. I’ve read that you should not use it daily, so I limit my use. After all, I am working on my skin to make it look better, and not to damage it. The rest of the wand’s features I try to do daily whenever I can.
Another thing that I do is use a mini HIFU wand on my face and neck every fifteen days. I use this for skin tightening, contouring, and collagen boosting. It is important to use this with a conducting gel for it to be effective on your skin. After the use of the device, I let my skin cool off before washing my face.
This HIFU treatment can have a stinging effect on the skin. It is best to use it as recommended. The manual says every fifteen days or once every two months. This depends on your need to slim down or tighten your face. You should also follow the recommended intensity level settings. These settings depend on the part of the face you are using it on.
I love both devices because they help keep my skin fresh. They have also helped me to tighten my skin when I lost weight. My face did not droop after the weight loss because I have been using these devices the entire time.
Low Maintenance Skincare
Like everyone else, I have my lazy days. During those days I only wash my face, use a toner, then moisturize and use a serum. I must add that I use a guasha when I moisturize, which helps relieve any bloating on my face. After that, I put on sunscreen and I’m good to go!
Basics
When I’m not in the mood for all the skincare steps, I usually only wash my face and put on some moisturizer, and then I’m done. It depends on the day, but the most important thing for me is to make sure I keep my skin clean and moisturized. I tend to skip the sunscreen when I am staying indoors the whole day, but I do put it on when I need to go outside. In these days when the sun’s rays seem harsher than usual, protection is very important!
One thing that I never fail to do these days is a facial massage. Since I started using guasha on my face, I’ve seen a difference in my face shape. It does help to relieve bloating from my usually round face. As much as I love it, I’m not always up to using guasha daily. This is why I tend to do facial massages when I wash my face, which seems to have the same effect.
Brands
I did not feel right recommending specific brands when it came to skincare. One thing I have discovered through the years is that we all have different skin types. Due to these different conditions, our skin can change over time.
It is important to find out which products work best for your skin. You can do this by acquiring samples or buying small amounts to try. Trying them out is the best way to see which ones are the most effective. Take note that it is best to try skin patch tests before using it on your entire face to be safe. If you get a bad reaction, stop using the product immediately.
The most popular celebrities may recommend certain brands, but those may not work for you. We need to remember these celebrities have access to other skin care treatments that you don’t. It's not always the products that they endorse that give you the skin that they have.
The only reason I made note of the brands of the devices I use is to show the specific type of device that I used. Despite using these devices, I recommend that you do your research. Look up these items before trying or buying them. There are risks with using these products and you need to know the pros and cons before you buy anything.
Always remember to pay attention to your skin to adjust your skincare routine as needed. Sometimes our skin needs different things. It depends on the weather, our diet, or our health. It is up to us to know when to change our routines and when we need to see a specialist.
Given all that I’ve shared about my skincare routines, I hope that I have given you ideas on what to try for yourself. Let me know if I have been helpful, or if you have any ideas you want to suggest that are better!
Here is the episode of the Fandesals Podcast that I mentioned earlier. I hope you like it!
