When I first started blogging, social media was not as like it is now. The people I followed then fellow bloggers and fellow writers. I followed their blog as they talked about their lives and their experiences.
As time passed, blogging started to fade away. Attention then shifted to social media. Bloggers gave way to influencers. These were online personalities who became celebrities themselves.
There are so many influencers that you can follow online. You can find them on an entire range of platforms. They can be on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok or YouTube. It is a large new world that you can get lost in if you allow it to. It can be difficult to know where to start!
To be honest, the number of social media platforms a person can be on can feel overwhelming. I can't keep up with my favorites on all these platforms. But I have come to realize that if a social media personality is big enough, it's not that difficult. They may have accounts on every platform, but the content is usually the same everywhere. Since then, I decided to follow the people I like on the platforms that I am most used to. These days, those platforms for me are Instagram and YouTube.
A season 2 episode of the Fandesals Podcast featured noteworthy social media accounts. If you can understand Tagalog and are curious about the topic, this episode might be for you. I embedded the episode at the end of this post.

The platforms that I am on the most are Instagram and YouTube, so I decided to share the people I follow from there. Let me know if we have similar favorites in the comments section!
Jung Jiwoo - @mejiwoo103 on both Instagram and YouTube
Jiwoo is someone I discovered because of the BTS fandom. She is the older sister of J-Hope. I started following her because of her brother, but I later found myself becoming a fan. I admire how this lady wears so many hats as a model, businesswoman, and influencer. I can't imagine how she finds the time to do everything while looking that good!
I started following her on Instagram but later discovered her vlogs on YouTube. I love them and I am learning a lot about how to use your social media platforms to promote your business.
Nagi Maehashi - @Recipetineats on YouTube and @recipe_tin on Instagram
When I first started trying to cook at home, one of the first sites that I went to was Recipe Tin Eats. Since then her website has become my go-to person for recipes I wanted to try. Later, I discovered that she also had accounts on Instagram and YouTube. I have been following her on both platforms since then.
I'm very happy that she has a YouTube channel because I get to see exactly how to do her recipes with it! I've been successful with my attempts at her recipes because of it! My latest has been her Crispy Beer Battered Fish and French Fries. My family loved it!
She has released her recipe book, Recipe Tin Eats Dinner. I don't have a copy yet, but I want to buy one so I can try the recipes in it!
Sandara Park - @sandarapark.official on YouTube, @ssantokki_xxi and daraxxi on Instagram
I have been a fan of Sandara Park since she was a winner of a star search contest in the Philippines. I have followed her career since those early days in the Philippines. I stayed a fan during her transition to a KPop star in the group 2NE1 and now as a solo artist.
I have always liked Dara's personality and followed her on her two accounts on Instagram. I also enjoy her vlogs from her channel on YouTube. We miss her in the Philippines, but I'm glad she comes back often.
Yoon Eun Hye - @y1003_grace on Instagram and @yooneunhye_login on YouTube
I have been a fan of Yoon Eun Hye since I saw her on Princess Hours. I used to follow her on the Korean social media platform Cyworld, but I'm glad she moved to Instagram. Cyworld was difficult for me to navigate since I did not know how to read Korean. I'm happy she's now on a platform I can manage!
Her YouTube channel is one of the few that I am subscribed to. I enjoy it because it seems to be the only way to watch her on-screen these days. Her usual posts are slice-of-life stories and reviews. She also does fashion and lifestyle vlogs.
Roscoe - @ThisRoscoe on YouTube
When I started as a BTS fan, one of the things I learned about was the concept of online reactors. I became familiar with these channels reacting to BTS videos, and I began having my favorites.
Some of the reactor channels felt too over the top for me. Others felt too calm, serious, and low-key. Then I discovered Roscoe...I loved the channel right away! This is the reactor with the personality that I can vibe with the most!
There is a lot of sincerity in the way he expresses himself and how he nurtures his community of viewers. I love that he feels like an old friend you're hanging out with as you watch BTS videos. The experience always feels fun and natural. I subscribe to a handful of reactors, but Roscoe stands out to me the most. I may be a silent lurker and member of the couch crew, but I enjoy every minute of it!
Lyn Slater - @iconaccidental on Instagram
She is a former professor, a writer, an influencer, and a soon-to-be-published author. I have been a fan of hers since I first discovered her a few years ago. I love how she writes and I am a fan of how she wanted to tell stories about women with interesting but ordinary lives. Women who may not be rich and famous with glamorous lifestyles but remain people you'd love to know more of. I love that about her.
Her writing and her point of view are some of the things that I learned from often. I like that I get to see a different perspective on life that I can take and apply to my own. It helps me to expand my point of view and I like that about her. That's what made me a fan.
Her rise in popularity in her 60s is proof that it is never too late to do what you love and gain recognition for it. I am so inspired by that!
BTS - @bts.bighitofficial on Instagram (+ @agustd, @j.m, @jin, @thv, @rkive, @uarmyhope) and @bangtantv on YouTube
This list would not be complete if I did not mention BTS. I love catching up on the vlogs and other videos on YouTube. It gives me something to look forward to especially now that three of them have enlisted in the military. I also love their posts on Instagram and I love it when they interact with each other in the comments!
I know some only post for promotions (I'm looking at you Yoongi), but I still appreciate the updates. I hope that they can be more active on the platform when they all get back from military service. I'm not sure if Jungkook will ever come back to Instagram, but it would be nice if he did so they could all be there.
I find it interesting to learn about the social media accounts that people follow. Learning about who they like helps me to learn about their interests. It gives me a look into what their personalities may be like apart from what I know about them.
I hope that by sharing the accounts that I follow on social media here I am also able to share a part of myself with you. If by sharing these accounts on this post I have been able to influence you to follow them, that would be great! Let me know in the comments section if you like the same people too! Or if you think there are some people who I would like based on the accounts I mentioned here, please tell me about them!
As promised, I leave you with the Fandesals Podcast episode I mentioned earlier. Let me know if you are familiar with the accounts mentioned in this episode. I would love to know what you think of them!
